Margaret von Kaenel participated in the Salon Leeuwarden 2018 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands May 3rd through May 6th.
The theme of the 2018 Salon was Ode to Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema and was celebrated in Leeuwarden, designated as the 2018 European Capital of Culture. Margaret’s panel was inspired by the artwork and painting styles of Alma Tadema and Maxfield Parrish. Her muses were the organizers of this years Salon – Gabrielle Westra and Randolph Algera. One must look closely for Randolph!
The Salon is a world wide gathering of some of the top artists and decorative painters. It is an exciting and unique Art exhibition of masters from 21 different countries who exhibit their work, teach master classes, discuss old and new techniques, products and information in the field. The Salon is a non-profit organization which began in 1992 in Belgium by a small gathering of professionals. It reconvened in 1996 and has been coming together ever since.
The Salon is now recognized as the most important and significant gathering of decorative painters in the world. Participants include owners and teachers of teaching Art Studios, businesses, artists and independent and commercial art supply companies. The Salon is a way for some of the most unique age-old traditions, within a field of many styles of art, to be shared amongst one another and ultimately passed on to participants, students and future generations. The opportunity to participate enhances and extends the level of communication between serious and committed artisans, master-craftsmen, painters and decorators.
The Salon is also a way for visitors and the public to experience the high quality of work present and to meet real masters of their craft. Ongoing demonstrations and exhibitions allow visitors and participants to view paintings specifically created for this event. During the show one will see: Master classes by top Salon artists; Exhibition panels by artists from 21 countries; Live demonstrations by all participating artists; and be able to watch the progress of a group mural painted by members of Salon.
Next year’s Salon will be held in Chamonix, France.
